Boris n Trump

August 29, 2019

Nobody in France is surprised by Boris blocking the process of democracy. They call him Trump’s clone and this week he’s shown his colours.

With Brexit heavy on our shoulders, we had thought people would be angry with us here this year. Two days after the vote, a friend had opened the door and instantly blown up at us for Brexit. It took some minutes before he listened to his wife saying, “But they didn’t vote!”

He was red in the face and he kept on at us, even forgetting to introduce us to the others dining at his house that evening. They too were emotional, but our friend was really incensed. He has been an economics adviser to the government since the days of Mitterrand and has written several popular books on French economic theory, so his country’s stable world was changing due to the referendum result in Britain.

Instead of anger, we’ve had endless curiosity. People are surprised that we fell for the lies told us by a man named Boris. Johnston, incidentally, means penis in American slang, and Trump means to fart in English slang. What a pair!

What’s more important than Brexit right now is democracy. If the world’s oldest parliament can be shut down to aid the dark ambitions of one party, what next? Trump buying England? Declaring himself King? Or even Queen? Trump selling us American rubbish at inflated prices and Boris and his ilk gaining from each dubious interaction?

They need stopping, and quick. Enough fury is out there against this undemocratic action by an unelected man who is, well, trumped up.
