She said, “I trust Boris because he’s a liar. It shows he’s human, we all lie, so I trust liars.” Could that sum up why Trump and Boris gained power?
The problem with lying is that you dig yourself in deeper with each manipulated truth. Eventually the hole you are in is too slippery to clamber out of. It’s why Boris’s election manifesto seeks to make politicians beyond accountability. He wants them to be able to lie as much as they like and get away with it without recourse. Yet they demand that we who work are accountable. My wife and all medics keep extremely detailed work diaries so their actions can be contested up to 25 years later….
But if you are Boris and you lie and destroy an economy, hey, that’s OK. God help us. Trump, who studiously avoided Boris at this week’s NATO conference, stated, “Even if Britain’s NHS was handed to us on a silver plate, we’d not be interested.”
That’s a blatant lie. An untruth he’d likely concocted with Boris to hide the truth. This lying has a solid background. Look into our government’s record over its nine years in power - they have gradually, secretly, privatised our Health System. Friends who worked for the NHS years, found their jobs being sold off to American-inspired companies. Some soon resigned, discovering profit was more important than health-care.
That’s what is being contested in next week’s election. An American health system versus the socially inspired NHS, which is praised around the world. Do we trust the man who loves slippery, secret deals and lies? Will we wake up in a money-oriented country matching America? A land where people die for lack of care.
I once rescued a bleeding man who’d been mugged in New York’s Central Park, but the hospital refused to see him because he had no proof of health insurance. Lying in his own expanding pool of blood, he was obviously dying; they ignored him. Eventually, come midnight, we found a friend upon whose Health-Card he could be treated. She saved his life.
Do we want that?
Wake up! Think for yourself! Vote, not for liars who weave dreams of vast wealth, but for a caring future.
